Travelling around Thailand for 3 weeks meant that we saw many beautiful places, however, I have to say that Koh Lanta was by far one of my favourite places we went too. As we went in the middle of May, it meant that it was “off-peak” season due to monsoons, however, we were extremely lucky and it only rained a couple of times on our whole trip. Anyway… back to Koh Lanta… We stayed at a gorgeous Bamboo resort called Fa Rung, this was about 50m away from the beach and was by far the best place we stayed.
Due to the “off-peak” season, this island was rather sleepy and each night we stayed, the beach was almost deserted so we bagged ourselves the best seats to watch the stunning sunsets. Our best day in Koh Lanta started off with us hiring a moped and exploring the island, we ended up wanting to visit Khlong Chak waterfall. Hiking 1 hour through deep rainforest was a little freaky, however, it was beautiful, the sounds of the rainforest were extraordinary although a little daunting as it felt like we were being watched. The waterfall was a little disappointing in the end, but we did enjoy the walk and the refreshing paddle once at the waterfall.
The next day, we yet again rented a moped and ventured out to see some of the towns on the island. Koh Lanta Old Town is a quaint old-fashioned town with cute restaurants and shops right on the water’s edge. We stopped off for lunch here and took some time taking in the view.
